Telavi is located about 70 kilometers east of the Georgian capital Tbilisi on the river Alasani at the foot of the Caucasus mountains. The city is best known for viticulture. It has around 20,000 inhabitants.
About the airfield itself there is not a lot of information around. Above all, it is known from the Soviet movie "Mimino", which also gives the airfield its unofficial name. A few years ago the airport was rebuilt and since then serves as a training ground for the Georgian Flight University. There is no regular service. Occasionally, supply flights are made to the mountain regions from here. It consists of one runway (10/28) which, with a length of 1,700 m, would be long enough for larger airplanes.
